I’m Lucky, and diskprices.store is a one-person project built for hardware enthusiasts, system administrators, enterprise architects, and anyone else trying to make sense of storage prices on Amazon. Whether you’re building a home media server, deploying a ZFS pool, plotting storage for a blockchain node, or just upgrading a workstation, this site exists for one reason: to bring clarity to a genuinely confusing market.
I don’t add fake “discount” banners or countdown timers. I track thousands of active Amazon listings — NVMe SSDs, enterprise mechanical hard drives, portable drives, SD cards, and LTO tape cartridges — and calculate one number for each: price per terabyte ($/TB). That number is what actually tells you whether a drive is a reasonable purchase for your situation, regardless of how the listing is marketed.
The Core Problem With Comparing Drive Prices Manually
If you’ve ever tried to compare hard drive prices on Amazon by hand, you already know the problem. A single search for “16TB hard drive” returns hundreds of results at wildly different prices, mixed conditions, and inconsistent listing quality.
A few things make this genuinely hard:
- The price-per-GB illusion — a drive that looks inexpensive at first glance can work out to a high cost per TB once you actually do the math against its capacity.
- Condition confusion — Amazon lists Brand New, Factory Recertified, Seller Refurbished, and Used drives side by side, and some listings mask an enterprise SAS drive as a consumer SATA drive.
- Pricing volatility — prices shift throughout the day based on inventory and competing sellers, so checking manually means comparing numbers that are already out of date by the time you finish.
- Warranty differences — the same drive model can carry very different warranty terms depending on whether it’s sold by an authorized distributor or a third-party reseller.
How diskprices.store Works
Price per TB Is the Core Metric
When you buy a 14TB or 18TB drive, you’re buying capacity, not just a physical object. My system parses the listed capacity of every drive and divides it by price, giving you a sortable price-per-TB column so a larger drive’s real unit cost is directly comparable to a smaller one’s.
Filtering by Form Factor, Technology, and Condition
The sidebar filters go beyond “internal” or “external”: interface and form factor (3.5″, 2.5″, M.2 NVMe, SAS), technology and medium (HDD, SSD, flash cards, LTO tape), and condition (new vs. refurbished/used), plus a capacity range so you can target the exact spec you need.
How Often the Data Updates
My backend pipeline checks and refreshes listings on a regular schedule, pulling capacity, condition, and pricing directly from Amazon. Prices shown here are accurate as of that check — Amazon’s own listing at the moment you actually buy is always the final word, which is why I keep a full pricing disclosure linked from every page.

No sponsored ranking. I don’t take sponsorship payments from drive manufacturers to move their listings up the table. Sorting is governed entirely by the price-per-TB math and whichever filters you’ve chosen — the lowest number in your filtered view sits at the top, regardless of brand.
